2008 CABERNET SAUVIGNON Le Roi Soleil - MOUNT VEEDER, NAPA VALLEY

2008 CABERNET SAUVIGNON Le Roi Soleil - MOUNT VEEDER, NAPA VALLEY

The Cabernet Sauvignon vines for " Le Roi Soleil " are sustainably farmed and are located in the highly acclaimed Mount Veeder appellation at 1800 feet elevation.

Tasting Notes

Our first release of Cabernet Sauvignon from Mount Veeder is phenomenal! The black fruit is bright, caresses the mid-palate, and stays around for the finish. The defining characteristic of this wine is its brilliant structure. Chewy and refined, the tannins are more than apparent, yet welcoming in their subtlety.

Le Roi Soleil simply seems to have it all at this juncture.

What makes Mount Veeder such as special place to make distinctive wines? Called "the smallest and most unique appellation in the Napa Valley" by the Wine Spectator Magazine, Mount Veeder features some of the steepest and most remote vineyards in all of California. The appellation volcanic soils and 1500 feet plus elevation mountain climate create the perfect conditions with longer sun exposure (but lower temperatures than the Valley floor), later ripening grapes that are deeply and intensely flavored. The region truly has a "wild" feel to it.

BEST BUY  | A foresty cabernet with the bright scent of cherries and pine, this is lush and delicious. Its gritty tannins lend structure and tension while the fruit itself is soft and round. Give this a year or two for those elements to meld, then serve it with lamb chops. (115 cases)

An interesting wine you can call intellectual. Its appeal is as much conceptual as hedonistic. It's the opposite of today's soft, sweet fruit bombs, being bone dry and somewhat austere, showing a tightly knit tannic structure. With an explosive but controlled, central core of blackberries, it's a cellar candidate. It will be fascinating to try this wine after 2014.
