In Alexandre Dumas novel The Three Musketeers, D'Artagnan fell for the beautiful and mysterious Milady. This French style inspired Chardonnay is Yannick's Lady – "Milady" – Susanna's favorite aphrodisiac! It comes from the highly acclaimed, 1800 feet elevation Godspeed Vineyards.
Tasting Notes
Ginger, peach and vanilla scents combine in this gentle white, a chardonnay with orchard fruit freshness to keep the flavors lifted. Naturally fermented with native yeasts, no malolactic fermentation and only 20% new French oak bring unique distinctiveness and complexity. Milady is sunny, balanced and ripe in the best sense with a cool textural richness. A wine of sheer exuberance. This is ready for fresh crab and roast chicken with herbs under the crisp skin.

What makes Mount Veeder such a special place to make distinctive wines?
Called "the smallest and most unique appellation in the Napa Valley" by the Wine Spectator Magazine, Mount Veeder features some of the steepest and most remote vineyards in all of California. The volcanic soils and mountain climate offer perfect conditions with longer sun exposure and lower temperatures than the valley floor.
This results in late ripening grapes that are deeply and intensely flavored.

Texture is this wine's best attribute — while seeming as round in the mouth as honey, it finishes fresh and clean. There's vanilla in the aroma, as well as earth and fruit in balance. Alcohol warms the finish with spice, substantial enough for roast veal.

2008 CHARDONNAY Milady - MOUNT VEEDER, NAPA VALLEY
Last Saturday afternoon I grabbed some girlfriends and headed down to Fort Mason for the SF Vintners Market. Although I've attended countless large tastings, this one was different because it was the first tasting where all of the wines were for sale. If you tasted something you loved, you could walk away with a bottle. It's a dangerous concept, but also a fun one! My favorite bottles were two whites from winemaker Yannick Rousseau. The grapes are from Napa Valley, but his winemaking style is classical French, resulting in lush, soft, and sophisticated sippers. The Chardonnay is rich and wonderful, while the Colombard is light and had me craving oysters on the half shell.
